Role Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineer defines the cooling and HVAC engineering strategy for data centre and mission-critical facilities, holds technical sign-off authority, and mentors junior and intermediate engineers.

The role leads value-engineering and vendor strategy and manages liaison with authorities, vendors, and clients from concept through commissioning, at CTS's São Paulo engineering hub.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the mechanical/cooling engineering strategy across chillers, CRAHs, CDUs, pumps, and heat rejection systems.

  • Provide technical authority and design sign-off for mechanical packages.

  • Lead value-engineering and optimisation reviews for mechanical scope, balancing efficiency, reliability, and maintainability.

  • Conduct design risk assessments and identify and escalate technical risks and design deviations.

  • Lead multidisciplinary MEP coordination and enforce modelling and documentation standards.

  • Oversee design and installation quality; lead commissioning and integrated testing of mechanical systems.

  • Lead vendor and OEM negotiations and technical evaluation for cooling and mechanical equipment packages.

  • Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and review their design deliverables.

  • Liaise with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ), vendors, and clients on mechanical compliance and delivery matters.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • 10+ years in mechanical engineering, including experience leading mission-critical/data-centre design.

  • Expert knowledge of critical cooling systems (CRAH/CRAC, chillers, liquid cooling, heat exchangers, pumps) and redundancy concepts (N+1, 2N).

  • Advanced proficiency across AutoCAD, Revit MEP, and Navisworks.

  • Deep understanding of high-density and liquid-cooled data centre environments and DCIM tools.

  • Advanced or fluent English for collaboration with international teams.

  • Proven leadership, mentoring, and client/authority engagement skills.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation package with performance-based incentives.

  • Meal vouchers and/or food vouchers.

  • Life insurance.

  • Direct collaboration with international colleagues and exposure to high-value global projects.

  • Career path within CTS Group’s global projects and international teams.

  • A dynamic, professional, and inclusive work environment in São Paulo, focused on innovation and excellence.
